What we do: Sampung Ulirang Nakatatanda (SUN) Awards

The Sampung Ulirang Nakatatanda (SUN) Awards is an annual award-giving program of Coalition of Services of the Elderly, Inc. that is held every first week of October. It was launched in 1991 to recognize and honor the important, sefless contributions and services of older persons in the society. This has been part of the organization's observance of International Day of Older Persons and Elderly Filipino Week since then. 


It has now discovered over 250 unsung older person heroes who have made impacts on the lives of many and have given exemplary services in their communities. Most of the nominees and awardees came from vulnerable and marginalized sectors such as older persons, farmers, indigenous people, women, and persons with disabilities.


Older persons with the following qualifications can be nominated by organization, community, groups or individuals whom they have served and inspired:

  1. 60 years old and above

  2. Not multi-awarded and not well-recognized in international or national level

  3. Selflessly rendered life for the service of other people for at least five (5) years.

Immediate family or relatives of the older person cannot nominate him/her in the SUN Awards.
